When someone is arrested, one of the first questions family members and loved ones have is: “Where are they being held, and how do we get them out?” Unfortunately, the answer is rarely simple.
Across North Texas, individuals may be held in a variety of facilities depending on the arresting agency and the stage of the case. This can include local police department holding cells, city jails, county jails, or other correctional facilities. Each location has its own procedures, contact information, and release timelines.
To help families navigate this stressful situation, we have compiled the information below for many of the police stations, city jails, and county facilities in the jurisdictions we serve. For each location, we’ve included details such as the facility address, phone number, and website when available. Facility procedures and contact information can change. If you’re having trouble getting accurate information, our office may be able to help.
A quick heads-up: calling these facilities for information can sometimes be frustrating. Phone lines are often busy, wait times can be long, and the staff answering calls may only be able to provide limited information. It’s not unusual to have to call more than once—or speak with different staff members—to get clear answers about a person’s status or release process.

If a person is arrested in Coppell, police will immediately take them to Grapevine Jail (Grapevine Detention Center | Grapevine, TX – Official Website (grapevinetexas.gov)).
The Grapevine Detention Center is a 24/7 operation for the temporary confinement of pre-trial individuals involved in the judicial process, as well as individuals serving time assessed on misdemeanors. You may call the Grapevine Jail at (817) 410-3233 for more information.
Grapevine Jail is located at 1007 Ira E. Woods Avenue, Grapevine, TX 76051.
Inmates are often transferred to Tarrant County or Dallas County Jail.
Visits are allowed from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Grapevine Jail daily, including weekends
You may contact Police Dispatch at 972-557-6000 to find out if someone is being held in Balch Springs. The jail holds individuals with Class C Misdemeanors or above and who are awaiting transfer to other jail facilities.
Inmates are allowed visitors on Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 9:00 am and Sundays from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Any person interested in visiting an inmate must have a valid state-issued driver’s license or identification card. A US Passport will also be accepted in lieu of a state identification.
Any person is allowed to bring inmates a change of clothing at anytime. The person bringing the change of clothing should understand that the clothing articles will be properly searched for contraband. The person bringing the clothing should also remain on scene to take possession of the inmate’s worn clothing articles.
An inmate may release their property to any person upon the inmate signing a release form. The person picking up the property shall provide proper state identification before the property will be released. Please be advised that all of the inmate’s property will be released, not just portions of the property.
Any person may bring medications for the inmate. Please be advised that the medication has to be in the designated pill bottle and the pill bottle has to list the inmate’s name. The pill bottle also has to contain what appears to be the appropriate number of pills according to the description of the pills.

Once a prisoner has gone through the booking process, they will be allowed to place one free telephone call. A prisoner may also make collect phone calls from inside a cell block.
The jail is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
Impounded vehicles are stored with Grahams Wrecker, 1755 Vantage Dr, Carrollton TX (972-242-0563).
Visitation generally occurs daily from 9:00 pm to 10:00 pm, but is subject to cancellation, without notice, by the jail supervisor. Visitation is limited to 10-15 minutes with a maximum of 2 people allowed per visit. Visitors must be appropriately dressed, be at least 17 years of age, present a driver’s license or government-issued ID, and have no outstanding arrest warrants. All visitors may be searched before entering the visitation room.
A prisoner’s prescription medication will be accepted and dispensed in the prescribed manner. You may also bring approved reading materials for a prisoner.

Inmates will only be allowed two visits per calendar week. The person(s) must be listed on the visitor card. Jail visitation hours for inmates whose last name begins with the letter:
Visitation for all inmates is allowed on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Visitors will not be processed after 1:30 pm.
On-site and off-site video visits may be scheduled in advance by the visitor from the Securus Video Visitation Website found at www.securustech.net. All video visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by Dallas Couty personnel. Your participation in video visitation constitutes consent to this recording and monitoring.
All video visits must be scheduled at least 72 hours in advance. The registering Visitor must be at least 17 years of age and present a valid, government-issued photo identification during the initial registration process. Visitors under the age of 17 must have a parent or guardian present during the video visit. Approvals are generally made within 72 hours.

The duration of each video visit is 20 minutes. Inmates are not restricted as to the number of off-site video visits they may receive in a week. On-site video visits are restricted to 2 video visits per week.

All bonds for class C misdemeanor charges can be posted at the Jail; all other charges must be posted at the County Jail. They accept cash or credit cards only, no money orders. To get someone out of jail, the whole fine must be paid, or in some circumstances, the judge will allow a payment plan to be set up and release the individual. You may also go through a bond agency.
If you wish to pay the full amount of a fine or bond, you can pay by credit card online. You must have the inmate’s first and last name and date of birth, as well as the warrant number, and the four-digit code for the city in which the fine or bond is owed.

If the person is expected to be released quickly, they might be able to keep wearing their own clothes, but if they are not expected to make bail quickly, they will have to wear a jail uniform.
When the bail is paid, they will get discharged from jail. The discharge process can take anywhere from 10 minutes to hours or even all day long. The quicker the bail is posted, the sooner the person will be freed. How quickly a person gets discharged can depend on whether they have a cash bond amount or if a magistrate has to decide how much to set the bail at.
For minor charges, a person will simply be booked and then released on their recognizance without having to pay bail. When a person has completed their jail sentence and has a date of release, they should plan to be released at any time that day, but usually in the morning.
Visiting hours are Monday through Sunday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. A valid ID is needed for inmate visits.
Farmers Branch is a holding facility. To find out if an individual is being detained by Farmers Branch, or for bail, visitation, or other information, call (972) 919-9327 or (972) 919-9328. Farmers Branch will not keep detainees longer than 72 hours, minus weekends or holidays.
Farmers Branch will transfer everyone to Dallas Lew Sterrett regardless of where a warrant was issued. Detainees will see a judge within 24 hours for arraignment.
Visitation is every day, including weekends, from 6:00 am to 8:00 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

To find out if someone you know has been recently arrested and booked into the Garland Detention Center, call (972) 485-4890. You will be asked to give the offender’s full name and date of birth.
Prisoners are allowed to place limited free telephone calls once the booking process is completed. Arraignments are generally conducted daily between 8:00 am and 2:30 pm.
The Garland Detention Center is a holding facility. Prisoners are generally confined for less than 72 hours before being transferred to another facility or released.
Visitors must meet all of these requirements:
Visitation will only be permitted if the prisoner is willing to speak with the visitor. Visits will normally be limited to 10 minutes.
To find out if someone you know is in the Grand Prairie Jail, call (972) 237-8947 or (972) 237-8951. The center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The bond desk cannot accept payments between 5:00 am and 6:00 am, and 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
Arraignments are generally held daily, between 8:00 am and 11:00 am, but can occur at alternate times to accommodate magistrate schedules. Arraignments are closed proceedings.
Visitation is from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, but is subject to cancellation, without notice, by the Detention Supervisor.
Visitation requirements are:
Children under the age of 17 may not visit an inmate, and children must not be left unattended in the Detention Center lobby or in a vehicle while a parent or adult visits an inmate. All visitors may be searched before entering the visitation room. Visitors are encouraged to call (972) 237-8951 to verify visitation approval.
Prisoner prescription medication will be accepted and dispensed in the prescribed manner. Medication must have the prisoner’s name on the bottle, and the prescription instructions must be clear and legible. Medication in the bottle must be the same as listed on the prescription bottle.
Prisoners are allowed to place a free telephone call during the booking process, and may make unlimited collect telephone calls once that process has been completed. A prisoner also has the opportunity to make collect phone calls from inside a cell block. Family members may purchase prepaid phone cards at a kiosk in the detention center lobby and deliver them to the bond desk.

Vehicles towed by the Grand Prairie Police Department are taken to the City of Grand Prairie Auto Pound located at 3010 Hard Rock Rd, Grand Prairie, TX 75050 (972-237-4100). The towing company used is Dave’s Highway Wrecker Service.

Highland Park Jail is a holding facility only. Call (214) 521-5000 to find out if a person is being held at Highland Park.
Depending on the offense, bond can be posted on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
No visits are allowed, with the exception of clergy and attorneys.
Once the person in custody has seen a judge, he/she is processed and sent to Lew Sterrett.
If a vehicle has been impounded, Highland Park uses J & J Towing Inc. (601 Digital Drive, Plano, Texas 75075, Ph: 972-380-6300).
Hutchins is a holding facility. The holding facility holds individuals with Class C Misdemeanors and individuals awaiting transfer to other facilities due to warrants.
Payments to the holding facility must be in the form of a Money Order, Cashier’s Check, or Credit/Debit Card. (Note: Credit/Debit card payments are subject to an additional 3% processing fee).

Visitation is limited to 10 minutes, with a maximum of 2 people allowed per visitation period (only one visitor at a time). Visitors must be appropriately dressed, be at least 17 years of age, present a state-issued driver’s license or identification (ID) card, or other government-issued ID with a photo, last name, first name, and date of birth.
Visitors will be checked for outstanding warrants. All visitors are subject to search prior to entering the visitation room.

Prisoners are allowed to place one free phone call once the booking process has been completed. Arraignments are generally once daily between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. The Jail is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Visitation is every day between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.
Impounded vehicles are stored at 3 private impound lots throughout the city of Mesquite. Contact the impound officer at (972) 216-6261 for information concerning the whereabouts of the vehicle.
For Mesquite Class C misdemeanors, a prisoner may pay with cash or credit card during business hours Monday through Friday. Dallas Sheriff’s Office fines or bonds must be paid directly to the Dallas Sheriff’s Office.
The Richardson Jail houses arrested persons pending their release on bond, transfer to other facilities such as county jails, or appearance in court. Call (972) 744-4820 for information. You may also find current inmates at Current Jail Inmates | Richardson Police Department.
Arraignments are held once a day. Richardson will usually hold people for 72 hours and then transfer them to Collin County or Dallas County Jail.
To get out of jail when arrested for a felony or misdemeanor (other than a Class C misdemeanor), the arrested person needs to pay the bond at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office located at 111 Commerce St, Dallas, or at the Collin County Sheriff’s Office located at 4300 Community Blvd, McKinney.

Inmates are allowed 1 personal visit during their stay in Richardson Jail. Visiting hours are 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm daily, including weekends. Visiting hours can be canceled, so it is recommended to call after 6:00 pm to ensure visitors are still allowed that day.

The Rockwall County Detention Center is the only holding facility in the county and accepts prisoners from 8 different law enforcement agencies in the county.
The average stay in the detention center is approximately 30 days. However, depending on their sentence, inmates can spend a longer period of time in the detention center. With few exceptions, inmates would spend no more than 1 year at the Rockwall County Detention Center.
A visitor will be allowed to visit once every 7 days. Visits will not exceed 20 minutes in duration. Inmates will be limited to 2 visits per visitation day. No more than 3 visitors will be allowed to visit an inmate at one time. This means one adult and two children for a 20-minute visit, or two adults and one child for a 20-minute visit. At no time will any child be left unattended. Visitation is based on a first-come, first-served basis. An inmate is not required to have a visitor list.
The Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office accepts bail for inmates in multiple forms such as surety bonds from bail bond agencies approved in Rockwall County, as well as an on-site bail bond option. Inmates incarcerated have the option to post their own bail or accept funds from friends or family for the purpose of posting bail (Access Corrections Bail Payments).

Once you arrive, simply walk into the lobby, pick up the white courtesy phone marked JAIL, and press the button. One of the Detention Officers on duty will answer and assist you.
If you wish to bond someone out, you will need to know if they are being held on a Class C misdemeanor charge or on a warrant. If they are being held on a Class C, you may post their bond at the Police Department. You may pay in the following ways:
If the person is being held for a Class B or above charge, and the charge will be filed through Dallas County, you will either need to pay the money at Dallas County (Lew Sterritt) or go through a bail bonds company. If you do not post a bond, then the inmate will be transferred to Lew Sterritt.
If the person is being held for a Class B or above charge, and the charge will be filed through Rockwall County, you may post a Cash Bond at Rowlett PD. Only cash will be accepted. If you would like to post a Surety Bond, then you may contact a Rockwall County bail bonds company to post the bond. Dallas County Bonds will be accepted.

The Seagoville TX Police Jail is a short-term police lock-up located at 600 North Hwy 175 in Seagoville, TX. It serves as the holding facility for the Seagoville Police Department or agencies within the judicial district of Kaufman, Dallas County. Offenders are held no longer than 48 – 72 hours before being transferred.
Police jails are locally operated to hold inmates awaiting transfer to the Kaufman, Dallas County Jail, or another jurisdiction that issued the arrest warrant. It is later at the County Jail where the offender will be arraigned and read the charges before a magistrate. It is then determined whether the accused will be offered bail.

If the offense is a Class C Misdemeanor of $500 or less, bond may be posted on site Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The only visitors allowed are family members and attorneys, any day of the week from 10:00 am to 11:00 am

Offenders are detained for no longer than 48 – 72 hours, at the most. Commissary, visitation, incoming mail, or telephone calls are not available.
